“Unfortunately, today a hand drawn swastika was located on the third floor,” Murphy wrote inside email, sent out shortly after 5 p.m. Friday. “First, I want to repeat what (Under Secretary for Intelligence along with Analysis David Glawe), the Secretary, along with many others inside Department have said inside past: there will be no room inside workplace for such symbols of hate. along with there will be no room inside workplace for those who ascribe to such a thing. Murphy then details several steps he said the department will be taking, including removing the swastika, asking staffers along with cleaning personnel if they saw anything “suspicious,” notifying the Department of Homeland Security’s offices of the inspector general along with security, asking the DHS Insider Threat Program “to take steps as appropriate” along with hearing suggestions “on steps we may want to take” by the DHS Office for Civil Rights along with Civil Liberties.
Murphy closed the email reiterating in which DHS has no “tolerance in our workplace for such acts of hate. along with This particular email will be just the next step in our communication along with action plan.”
As happens in offices, an employee commented on the email although accidentally replied to all.
“Check out the latest I&A” — Intelligence along with Analysis — “insanity — as if leadership definitely cares,” the employee wrote. “I guess I should not be surprised.”
Murphy responded to in which individual, also replying all.
“I do care,” Murphy wrote.
Neither Murphy nor the employee responded to emails requesting comment. although in a statement to CNN, Andrew Meehan, the acting assistant secretary for public affairs by DHS, said the act of drawing a swastika has “no place” inside department.
“This particular display of hate along with cowardice does not represent the dedicated hardworking men along with women of the Department of Homeland Security,” Meehan said. “This particular has no place in an organization in which works tirelessly to protect the American people along with combat hate in all its forms. The situation was immediately referred to the Office of the Inspector General along with will be currently being investigating to ensure in which swift along with corrective action will be taken.”
