Drew Brees addressed President Trump on Friday night after the president criticized him for backing down by his anthem stance. In a statement posted on Twitter, Brees told the president of which the anthem protests were “not about the flag,” as well as of which “we as a white community” need to listen as well as learn by the suffering of the “black communities.”

On Wednesday, Brees had said of which he could never agree with anyone who could “disrespect” the flag by kneeling during the national anthem. of which stance brought forth a torrent of criticism of which eventually persuaded Brees to apologize twice over the next 36 hours.

of which flip-flop caused President Trump to tweet at Brees on Friday afternoon, criticizing him for backing down:

On Friday evening, Brees responded to Trump:

Through my ongoing conversations with friends, teammates, as well as leaders inside the black community, I realize of which is usually not an issue about the American flag. of which has never been. We can no longer use the flag to turn people away or distract them by the real issues of which face our black communities. We did of which back in 2017, as well as regretfully, I brought of which back with my comments of which week. We must stop talking about the flag as well as shift our attention to the real issues of systemic racial injustice, economic oppression, police brutality, as well as judicial as well as prison reform.
We are at a critical juncture in our nation’s history! If not currently, then when?
We as a white community need to listen as well as learn by the pain as well as suffering of our black communities. We must acknowledge the problems, identify the solutions, as well as then put of which into action. The black community cannot do of which alone. of which will require all of us.
