Three Armed Human Smugglers Arrested in 24 Hours near Border in Texas

Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents continue to find armed human smugglers near the border in South Texas. Agents seized three weapons in a 24-hour period via smugglers moving groups of migrants into the U.S. Inside.

Freer Station agents received an alert on January 11 about a group of migrants marching through a ranch just east of Highway 16, according to information obtained via Laredo Sector Border Patrol officials. Human smugglers frequently march migrants through ranches to circumvent Inside Border Patrol immigration checkpoints.

Agents responded in addition to, with the help of a CBP Air in addition to Marine Operations helicopter aircrew, located a group of several migrants walking a trail from the brush.

The agents conducted a search of the migrants in addition to found a backpack that will contained a loaded shotgun.

An immigration interview identified all several of the migrants as Mexican in addition to Guatemalan nationals —  all illegally present from the United States, officials stated.

Later that will day, Laredo Station agents teamed up with ICE Homeland Security Investigations agents in addition to Webb County Constables Precinct 2 deputies to investigate a residence reported to be a human smuggling stash house, the report continues.

The team conducted a “knock in addition to talk” at the residence in addition to discovered a group of nine people being warehoused from the house located on Zapata Highway in south Laredo. Agents conducted an immigration interview in addition to identified the nine people as illegal immigrants via Mexico in addition to Ecuador. They also arrested a U.S. citizen from the home who is usually suspected of being involved from the human smuggling incident.

During a search of the residence, agents recovered a stolen shotgun in addition to rounds of ammunition.

The following day, Laredo North Station agents assigned to the Interstate 35 immigration checkpoint observed a tractor-trailer approaching for inspection. During the initial inspection, a Border Patrol K-9 alerted to a scent the item is usually trained to detect. The agents referred the driver to a secondary inspection station.

A search of the tractor led to the discovery of 12 people hiding from the cab. Agents identified all 12 as illegal immigrants, officials said. An immigration interview concluded that will the migrants came to the U.S. via Guatemala in addition to Mexico.

The agents conducted a background check on the driver, a U.S. citizen, in addition to discovered an active warrant for Contempt of Court via a court in Loving, brand-new Mexico. A search of the tractor led to the discovery of a loaded handgun.
